Logan High School Students of the Month

Each month, each teacher at Logan High School selects a student of the month for each course that they teach. Below you will find them for the month of October!

Language Arts:

Sarah Noe
Ms. Baisden's Language Arts 9
Sarah earned the student of the month recognition because she has read six books since school opened, and she works very hard on benchmark measures like STAR and Achieve 3000 level set.

Cassius Dotson
Ms. Baisden's Language Arts 12
Cassie earned student of the month recognition because she read seven novels since school started, and she is working very hard on the components of the senior project portfolio.

Alex Browning
Ms. Baisden's creative writing class
Alex earned the student of the month recognition because he worked extremely hard to write and revise a poem that honored his grandfather and he produced a really strong work of art.

Darren Adams
Mr. Huff's Language Arts 12
He has kept a positive attitude toward English class, completed every assignment on time, and attended class every day with no tardies.

Bryonna Ooten
Mr. France's Language Arts 9
Bryonna is always on task. She keeps her journal up to date and works hard on all assignments. She cares about her grades and it shows.

Noah Hurst
Mr. France's public speaking
Noah keeps up to date on his work. He puts effort into his Achieve lessons. His journal is always up to date, and scores reflect hard work and effort.

Isaiah Honeycutt
Mr. Anderson's Language Arts 10
Isaiah has shown a very respectful attitude and has worked hard at completing his assignments.

Dillon Thompson
Mr. Anderson's Language Arts 11
Dillon was selected as student of the month for his eagerness to work and positive attitude shown during class.

Katelyn Barnhart
Ms. Lockhart's Language Arts 11
Katelyn was selected as the student of the month because she has worked diligently to turn in all of her assignments. She turns in high quality work, and her class grade of 100% shows this.

Shelbee Balentine
Ms. Lockhart's Language Arts 12 CR
Shelbee was selected as the student of the month because she is a hard worker both inside and outside of school. She took the initiative to independently deliver an excellent argumentative speech, and she has also done well on senior project documents.

Lisa Kovach
Ms. McClure's Language Arts 9
Lisa is dedicated and demonstrates that she is prepared and willing to learn. She exceeds expectations in her writing, annotations, and daily work.

Jordan Brinegar

Jordan is on time, prepared, and completes all learning activities. He is willing to work to succeed in class.

Floyd Kitchen
Ms. Clay's Language Arts 9/10
Floyd earned the student of the month recognition because he has worked very hard during the first few weeks of school. On September 20th, he scored the most points on Achieve 3000 of any student participating the program at Logan High School, West Virginia, and even the United States. Way to go, Floyd!

Zachary Vernatter
Ms. Clay's Language Arts 12
Zach earned student of the month recognition because he is always willing to go the extra mile to help his teacher and classmates. He works hard every day and helps to make sure every student is prepared for the lesson, not just himself. Zach, you rock!

Jacob Brown
Ms. Ooten's AP Literature
Jacob earns the honor of October AP Literature student of the month because he is always willing to share his ideas with others. Jacob's attention to detail and level of complexity in his answers make him an excellent selection for this honor.

Kailee White
Ms. Ooten's AP Language
Kailee is our AP Language student of the month. She writes well, always has her assignments, and seems to enjoy class. However, that is not why she was chosen. She was chosen because she seems to truly enjoy the way our language is constructed. She enjoys when she notices the nuances of a text and is able to connect the subtleties to the author's overall purpose. Kailee seems to love learning.

Ally Kirk
Ms. Crisp's Language Arts 10
Ally has earned the student of the month recognition because she consistently gets all of her work in on time and works very hard on her writing projects.

Josh Farmer
Ms. Crisp's Language Arts 11
Josh has earned the student of the month recognition because he is very conscientious about his work. He not only gets work in on time, but follows up about how he did and any questions that he has about what his work earned.

Shelby Fillinger
Ms. Crisp's Literature
Shelby has earned the student of the month recognition because she goes above and beyond in all her work. She does all that is asked of her for any given assignment, and she will usually add more to the work than what was asked, showing great initiative and creativity.

Dontae Adams
Ms. Bartley's Language Arts 10
Dontae earned the student of the month recognition because of his determination to meet and exceed achievement goals, and for adding depth to classroom discussions through thought-provoking comments.

Zoe Browning
Ms. Bartley's public speaking
Zoe was selected as student of the month for her willingness to step outside of her comfort zones to master personal goals as a public speaker.
